A girl watches a video on YouTube, of a young woman climbing a mountain, or hiking through a canyon, or crawling through a cave. One day, she thinks, I want to be a badass like that.

Today is International Women's Day, a day to encourage and support women all across the world and, for Rovers at any rate, to help foster the adventurous spirit and potential that every woman can achieve.

The theme for this years IWD is #PressforProgress, and what's more important to the march of progress than the young minds that will form our future leaders? Turramurra Rover's is so incredibly lucky to have dozens and dozens of these amazing and inspirational women in our group, and every day they are helping to pave a new future for scouting, one in which the girls of our younger sections can have all the opportunities and adventures that these women haven't been given, but have taken for themselves.

Over the last year, Turramurra Rover women have helped lead the crew and organise massive events like Harbour Cruise and, at a region level, Dragonskin. They have engaged with the younger sections of our group and helped to teach valuable skills to young girls and boys, whilst also empowering and inspiring those young girls to achieve their own goals in scouting, no matter what they might be. Turramurra Rover women have caved, canyoned, hiked, rogained, kayaked, climbed mountains and gone deep underground, discovered and explored and, more than anything else, have inspired.

Turramurra Rovers is looking to the future when we celebrate International Women's Day and, make no mistake, the future is female.
